Base/quote pair

A trading pair names two assets: the base is the asset being bought or sold, and the quote is the asset it is priced in; in BTC/USDT the base is BTC and the quote is USDT, so a price of 60,000 means one BTC costs 60,000 USDT.

Why it matters

The pair decides what "buy" means, what currency your profit is in, and which balance an order draws on. BTC/USDT and BTC/USDC are different markets with different liquidity and slightly different prices; BTCUSDT on a futures venue is a contract, not the coin. Signals often write the pair loosely, "BTC", "$BTC", "BTC/USDT", "BTCUSDT.P", and brokers add suffixes on forex, so mapping the signal's symbol to the exact market the venue expects is a real step, and getting it wrong means either a rejection or a trade in the wrong market.

How AlgoVesta handles it

AlgoVesta normalises the symbol in each signal to the venue's format: exchange-specific pair notation for crypto, including quote-currency variants such as USDT and USDC where they exist, and broker suffixes or aliases on MetaTrader 5. Position size is defined in quote currency terms, as margin per signal in USD on crypto, so a $100 setting means the same exposure whether the base is BTC at 60,000 or a small coin at 0.02. Each pair's minimum notional, lot step and price precision are read from the venue and applied before an order is sent, and the dashboard displays prices with the pair's own tick precision rather than a fixed number of decimals, so a 0.00001234 quote is not rounded to zero. Spot and futures versions of the same pair are kept as separate markets. See Supported exchanges and spot vs futures.

Example

A channel posts "LONG $SOL entry 140.20 SL 136.00 TP 152.00". AlgoVesta maps it to the exchange's SOLUSDT futures contract, sizes the position to $100 of margin at the bot's leverage, checks the lot step and minimum notional, and displays the entry with the contract's own tick precision.
