Risk Management
A cooldown is a waiting period during which a bot does not open new positions, triggered by an event such as a run of consecutive losses, a daily loss limit, or a trade that was just closed on the same symbol; it ends at a fixed time or when the condition clears.
Losing trades cluster in time. A channel that is out of sync with the market tends to post several wrong calls in a row, and a symbol that just stopped you out is often still in the same chaotic move. A cooldown converts that observation into a rule: after N losses, or after a loss on this symbol, wait. It costs some missed winners and prevents the streaks that do the real damage. For prop-firm accounts it is also the simplest way to keep a rough day from reaching the firm's daily limit.
AlgoVesta offers cooldowns at two levels. A loss-streak cooldown pauses a bot for a chosen number of minutes after a set number of consecutive losing trades; a same-symbol block prevents a second position on a symbol while one is already open. Daily loss and drawdown brakes act as longer cooldowns that release at the next UTC day or when you reset them. During a cooldown, incoming signals are recorded as blocked with the reason and shown on the bot card, so nothing is lost silently and you can see what the rule prevented. Cooldowns anchored to the end of the day are computed from the day boundary, not from the current time, so they cannot extend themselves indefinitely. Positions already open are unaffected. The rules are configured per bot in the wizard on the crypto automation page; forex bots on the Forex on MetaTrader page have the same options.
A forex bot is set to a three-loss cooldown of 120 minutes and the same-symbol block. Between 08:00 and 09:30 three XAUUSD signals are stopped out. The fourth signal at 09:40 is blocked by the streak cooldown until 11:30; a GBPUSD signal at 10:15 is blocked for the same reason. At 11:45 a new XAUUSD signal is accepted, and a second XAUUSD signal at 12:10, arriving while the first is still open, is blocked by the same-symbol block.
