DCA (Dollar-Cost Averaging)

DCA (dollar-cost averaging) is buying a fixed amount at regular intervals or at a series of price levels instead of all at once, so the average entry price smooths out timing luck; in signal trading it also names the practice of splitting an entry across several prices in a zone.

Why it matters

DCA is a strategy type, and it is often confused with signal execution. A DCA bot decides when to buy on its own schedule; a signal executor buys when a source says so. Channels that post "entry 60,000-58,500, DCA 3 levels" are asking you to place several entries, which changes position sizing (the full size is reached only if all levels fill), the stop distance (measured from the average, not the first fill), and the risk if the price keeps falling through every level. Averaging down without a stop is how a small loss becomes a large one.

Example

A channel posts three messages over two hours: "BTCUSDT LONG 60,000", then "add at 59,200", then "add at 58,500", with a shared stop at 57,800. With $100 margin per signal and a limit of three open positions, AlgoVesta opens three positions of $100 margin each, every one with its own stop at 57,800 derived from that message, and blocks a fourth "add" because the open-position limit is reached.

Common mistakes

• Averaging down without a stop, so the total risk grows with each level.
• Sizing the first level as if it were the whole position.
• Placing the stop relative to the first fill instead of the average.
• Expecting a signal executor to schedule buys by itself.
