An EA (Expert Advisor) is a program written in MQL5 that runs inside the MetaTrader 5 terminal and can read prices, place, modify and close orders, and react to events; it is the standard way to automate anything on MetaTrader, from a full strategy to a simple bridge that executes commands sent from outside.
MetaTrader has no public HTTP API: an MT5 account can be traded programmatically through the terminal alone, and an EA is what makes the terminal act automatically. That is why every serious MT5 automation, including signal copiers, depends on an EA, and why the EA's quality decides latency, reliability and safety. It also means an EA has to be running in a terminal that is logged in and connected around the clock, which is the reason home setups so often fail.
AlgoVesta runs its own bridge EA on a farm of MetaTrader 5 terminals that it operates for you; you do not install or configure anything on your computer or a VPS. The EA receives commands (open, modify, close, query positions) from AlgoVesta's backend over a private, low-latency channel, executes them on your account and reports fills, protection status and account data back. The EA only acts on commands that have already passed your bot's risk rules; it does not contain strategy logic and does not trade on its own. Terminal and EA health are monitored, disconnections are recovered, and the connection state is shown per account. A signal for EURUSD passes the bot's rules and becomes an open command with symbol, direction, 0.20 lots, stop and target. The backend sends it to the terminal that holds the trader's broker login; the EA places the market order, waits for the fill, sets the stop and target on the position, and returns the ticket number and fill price. Within a second the position is visible in the dashboard with the broker's own figures.
