Signal & Automation
A webhook is an automated HTTP request that one application sends to a URL on another application the moment an event happens; in trading, TradingView sends a webhook to an automation platform when a strategy or indicator alert fires, so the order can be placed without anyone clicking a button.
Alerts by email, app notification or sound still need a human to act on them. A webhook carries the alert's message body straight to the executing platform, which is what turns a TradingView strategy into an automated one. The message body is under your control: it can be a fixed text like "BTCUSDT LONG" or a JSON payload with placeholders that TradingView fills in at alert time (symbol, price, action, position size). The platform on the receiving end parses that body, checks it against your rules and places the trade.
Each AlgoVesta strategy gets its own webhook URL that contains a secret token; you paste it into the TradingView alert's "Webhook URL" field and put the JSON template from the dashboard into the message box. Incoming requests are accepted for live execution only when the source can be verified, either because the request comes from TradingView's published IP addresses or from an IP you have allowlisted; anything else is logged but not traded. The payload is parsed into symbol, side, entry hint, stop-loss and take-profit, then routed to the target you chose for that strategy: a crypto exchange account or a MetaTrader 5 account. Strategy exits ("flat") close the open position rather than opening the opposite side, and the same logic runs in paper mode so you can test the alert end to end before going live. A signal is received and parsed in well under 100 ms; end to end, the order reaches the venue in about 4.1 seconds on crypto exchanges and about 1.2 seconds on MT5 on average. Setup steps are on the TradingView bot page and in the webhook setup guide.
Alert message: {"symbol":"{{ticker}}","side":"buy","price":{{close}},"stop_loss":{{plot_0}},"take_profit":{{plot_1}}}. When the strategy fires on the ETHUSDT chart, TradingView replaces the placeholders and posts the JSON to the strategy's URL. AlgoVesta opens the long with the configured $100 margin, places the stop and the target from the two plots, and shows the trade in the dashboard within seconds.
